Land Clearing and Site Preparation

 The Building Pad Process

The purpose of a building pad is to provide a strong solid surface to erect a heavy structure that will not tilt or sink into the ground.

The ground where the structure will be built needs to be prepared to withstand the weight of the structure. Not all soils are strong enough to hold such weight. Therefore, the pad needs to be prepared following the adequacy of the pad process to stabilize the soil so that when the structure settles over time it will settle evenly.

Land Clearing

To install a building pad, it is necessary to start with the land clearing process. The first thing to be cleared is the driveway that will access the house pad. The site where the house pad will be built needs to be cleared from trees, stumps, brush, debris, rocks, and any object that hinders the building process.

After the clearing has been done, all the organic waste must either be removed to another area or hauled away from the construction site.

Excavation

Start the excavation by stripping off the topsoil to leave the site free of organic material that can decompose in the future and that can make the soil unstable resulting in the sinking of the structure. The necessary topsoil will be removed to reach a solid base strong enough to start spreading fill dirt on top.

Grade and Level

The select fill dirt will be brought in large dump trucks that will be spread to raise the pad to a certain height for water to flow down to prevent flooding or erosion.

Compact

With a roller machine, the graded pad will be compacted to a certain density required for a house pad. The pad is ready to start the foundation of the building.
